Here on Long Creek Farm December and the beginning of January were very mild for NE Oklahoma, but in the end of January we got some really cold weather for a couple of weeks and on the 23rd we got about a foot of snow; it's mostly melted now but it stayed on the ground for over a week!

A lot of birds were coming to the feeders when the snow was on the ground, which made for some good photos. The wild birds were also eating our chicken and duck food, not much you can do about that!

Pets

Dakota absolutely loves the snow; she will spend almost all day playing out in it!

Pumpkin has gotten a lot bigger and lost almost all her gray puppy fur and is now almost completely orange.

The Guinea pigs are doing good; they will be kept in the garage until the weather gets a bit warmer. They are mostly eating hay and their pellets, but they do love the occasional apple or carrot!

Goats

We had to get a delivery of 30 bales of hay for the goats a couple weeks ago; they seem to be going through more hay this year than last, we're not sure why. Our herd is about the same size as it was last year, it could have something to do with the quality of the hay.

We recently sold Blaise, our male goat, because he was hurting some of our females, so not all of our does will be having babies this spring. We think at least Nutmeg, Philly, Shotgun, Mamie, Cocoa and Chocolate Chip will and maybe Ava, Shadow, and Melody, but we aren't sure. To see pictures of all our does click here

We focus on breeding good looking and heathy goats, so if you would like to sign up to reserve kids, which will start to be born around March first click here

Chickens and Ducks

We have decided we are going to mostly raise ducks for eggs, so we are selling all but a few of our Whiting True Blue hens. If you are interested in buying any of them, click here

The ducks have been doing pretty good with laying through this winter storm!

Sadly we had another predator take one of our ducks recently, so now we only have five females left. We plan to incubate in the spring and possibly purchase more females to build our flock up. Kakhi Campbells have been an enjoyable breed to own and they have proven to be very good layers.
