So much has been going on here it’s been almost two months since I’ve gotten a blog out!!! The weather has been just all over the place, snow and sleet, 80’s, super windy, very pleasant, just everything.

The grass has taken almost a month longer than last year to start growing enough to pasture the animals, we think partly because we haven’t been getting much rain, but we are finally working on getting them all out to pasture.

Goats
All but two of our Nigerians have kidded. We have sold four and have quite a few reserved. We have been having a problem with what we think is pneumonia. At least five kids have gotten it, we lost three kids and were able to save two.

Oil of oregano has been working to cure it if we catch it before the kids gets too bad. It seems to have been caused by the very windy and cold weather we were having.
We finally started pasturing them again, we are currently moving then in four rolls of electric netting every day.

Sweet Pea had twin girls 2-14-25. One is reserved and we still have the other one.

Philly had quadruplets 2-18-25, one boy and three girls. She seemed to be having a hard time feeding them all so we sold two of the girls as bottle babies. We still have the boy and one of the grey girls.

Eva had twin boys 2 -23 - 25. One didn’t make it and one is reserved.

Star had triplets, two girls and a boy 2-24-25. The grey girl is sold, and the mostly black one and the brown boy are reserved.

Rose had a single boy, 2-25-25. He is still available.

Chocolate Chip had triplets, 2-26-25, two boys and a girl. The girl is the multicolored one in the flowers. They are all reserved.

Nutmeg had triplets, 2-27-25. She had two boys and a girl but only the girl made it. She is reserved.

Mamie had a single girl 2-28-25. She is reserved.

Gemma had twin girls 3-10-25. Both are still available.

Hazel had twin boys 3-17-25. Both are still available.

We also recently added two new does to our herd, Pepper and Sunshine. Sunshine had triplets 3-23-24. Two boys and a girl, she rejected one boy, so he was a bottle baby and is sold.

Pepper had triplets 3-24-25, two girls and a boy, the boy is reserved but the two black and white girls are still available.

The goat milk has been selling so well we have hardly had any ourselves! We got a milking machine from Milker Supply which has been working well and makes milking a bit easier and quicker!
If you are interested in getting goat milk, we still have the wait list up on the home page of this site.
Chickens
Our order of Whiting True Blues arrived the week of March 17th. Most of them have survived so far which we are very happy about! We also hatched a batch of our own eggs last week.
18 out of 24 hatched but so far only 13 have survived, which is odd, we have never lost a chick we hatched ourselves before this. Something didn't seem to be quite right when they were hatching.

Four of the eggs that had chicks inside never hatched, two chicks died in the incubator after hatching, and the rest took forever to dry off.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but hopefully the rest do good, they seem fine so far.
Both batches of chicks are available for pick up, please contact us if you are interested!
Cow
We started pasturing Agnes in the same fence with the goats and so far, it is working well. The goats are a little afraid of her, but she pretty much just ignores them, so I think we will keep her in with them.

Garden
We have quite a few transplants started inside, we are just waiting for the weather to be right and the soil temperature to be warm enough to put them in the garden!
Homesteading 101
I recently wrote a homesteading book that we are now offering in our online store!
