Dogs

a border collie, German shepherd, and a papillon at a birthday party

Zelie our Papillon just turned two on the 15th! She got to enjoy a nice homemade dog cake for her birthday.

Apricot (our cat) did not like the birthday hat!

We got the "dog food" from our cow we butchered so the dogs all got to enjoy a fresh grass fed and finished, no antibiotics, no vaccine, chemical free Angus bone!

Ducks

two adult kaki Campbell ducks
The ducks are molting so they look awful right now!

We now only have 6 adult ducks left since the bobcat took so many this year. We also have one single duckling (we tried to hatch 10 but only he hatched) that follows you all around and lives in the garage so he can have a heat lamp and be protected from the elements.

Chickens

a white and black spotted Whitening True Blue chicken

We are moving the chickens every few days to get them off of their manure, but the grass has not been growing so they are basically being moved from one short patch to the next. Hopefully the fall rains will make the grass grow and they will stop eating so much store-bought food.

Goats

With the recent rains we are leaving the goats in the barn with hay since they will not come out if it is wet outside.

The goats are still giving a little over a gallon a day but with several moms coming and buying the milk for their babies we are not drinking it ourselves very often.

By the way we are going to be drying our goats up for the winter so if you are wanting milk, now is the time to come by and get some!

Guinea Pigs

Antonella (the one with orange on her face) has learned to sit up for a carrot treat, and Victoria will come when called, guinea pigs are very smart (although Antonella is calmer than Victoria and patient, so she learns faster!)

Cow

ree

We recently got our cow meat back from the butcher! It should last a little over 3 months (with 11 people) and at that point we will be into deer hunting season and will be able to switch to venison, which will save a lot of money to not have to buy meat for most of the fall and winter! Our cow was very small so we didn't get as much meat as we should have from an 18-month-old cow.

Seasonal

ree

A final note, keep an eye out since we are planning on offering (cracked, shelled, raw, and wild) pecans this fall. If you have our app, we will probably send out a notification on there once pecans become available. We also plan to list them on our website and probably post another blog on pecans once we start offering them.
